According to archeological discovery, silk and silk fabrics emerged at least 5,500 years ago. Its history could date back to the 30th Century BC when Huang Di (Yellow Emperor) came into power. From 138 B.C. to 126 B.C., Zhang Qian started his diplomatic mission under imperial order to the west along the famous Silk Road, which started from Chang'an (now Xi'an), across Middle Asia, South Asia and West Asia. From then on, sericulture and silk production techniques gradually spread to many countries.
Originated in the primitive society, silk skills are one of great Chinese contributions to the world development. It demonstrates the brilliant civilization of ancient China. According to the different weaving skills and silk fabrics, silk goods are divided to many types, such as brocade, satin and so on. Among the products, Sichuan Brocade ,Zhuang Brocade and Suzhou Brocade are the specific representatives . Generally speaking, most of these silk goods served as clothing material and decorations.
Embroidery always accompanies silk and its development. The most famous embroideries in China are Su embroidery in Jiangsu, Xiang embroidery in Hunan, Shu embroidery in Sichuan and Yue embroidery in Guangdong, namely Four Renowned Embroideries.

China continues to produce silk in countless varieties, including damask, satin, crepe georgette, raw silk and brocade and so on, which are enjoying a higher reputation all over the world. Nowadays, silk, in some sense, is still some kind of luxury. And silk was, still is, and will always be a priceless treasure presenting our traditional culture.
